Absences

We know that absences are unavoidable, but we want you to be successful.  When out for any circumstance please be aware of your responsibilities for your absence.

·        If you know that you are going to be absent, please make arrangements beforehand for assignments and tests.

·        Please see teachers during homeroom the day you return from an absence.

·        All homework due on the day you were absent is due the day you return (even if) you do not have that class that day.

·        All Projects/Essays/Current Events, etc. are due on the actual due date.  Which means, if you are absent, it is still due on that day.  Please either email the assignment or put it in our mailbox in the office.

·        Students have one day for each day that they are absent to turn in homework/classwork that was assigned the day they were absent.

·        Any notes given during class on the day you were absent must be copied from another student.

·        If you are absent on the day of a test/quiz, a different version of the test/quiz may be given.

·        You may be required to take quizzes/exams in homeroom, brunch, and/or lunch the day you return from your absence.

Welcome to Team Amazon

Dear Parents,
Welcome to Team Amazon. Your child has been assigned to our team for their 8th grade year at Rio Norte.   Please take a few moments to go over this letter with your child. It outlines the expectations for our team.

Homework

According to district policy, students are expected to spend 25 – 90 minutes on homework nightly.  Students will write daily assignments in the “binder reminder” provided for them by the school.  Please monitor this.              ***PLEASE REFER TO INDIVIDUAL CLASS LETTERS REGARDING HOMEWORK POLICIES FOR INDIVIDUAL CLASSES.
Absent work
We know that absences are unavoidable, and we want you to be successful.  When out for any circumstance please be aware of your responsibilities for your absence.

Supplies

Required Supplies for all students MUST BE CARRIED AT ALL TIMES.  Supply list is attached.

Binder Reminder

The “binder reminder” is a wonderful tool to help students get organized.  It is a requirement for each student to bring their “binder reminder” to class every day.  Students must record homework assignments, project due dates, test dates and special team functions in this organizer.  The “binder reminder” is also a great tool for communication between parents and teachers.  Please check your child’s “binder reminder” daily.

Academic Honesty District Policy

        Your child is aware that:
As a Rio Norte student, your conduct reflects not only your self-worth, but also a commitment to maintain the integrity of grades awarded in the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District.  Subsequently, plagiarism and cheating (for example copying another student’s work, submitting work that is not your own, stealing answers, using unapproved materials for an exam or assignment, which giving someone your paper to someone else to copy with the exception of class notes and Cultural terms) will be rewarded with a grade of zero points on the assignment.  Incidences of cheating will be grounds for referral to the assistant principal.
PLEASE NOTE: Class Notes and Cultural Terms can be shared and students will not be penalized.
Merit Policy
All students at Rio Norte begin the year with 100 merit points.  If a student violates school rules they will lose merits.  At the end of each semester all merit points reset to 100.  Students are given one warning each semester for minor offenses before they begin to lose merits.  Students will receive demerits for the following violations.
Minor Offenses:  Tardy (5 demerits after 5, 10 demerits after 10), Gum, food or drink in class, electronic device, dress code Class disturbance, detention/class suspension (5 demerits each)
Severe Offenses   Saturday school and suspensions    (10 demerits each)
Consequences for each loss of merits each semester:
20 demerits – Saturday School
30 demerits- Saturday School, loss of dances and loss of all non-academic field trips (including Disneyland) & loss of school wide activities (such as Turkey Bowl)
Each additional 10 demerits will result in Saturday School.
